With only eleven all sea-facing rooms limiting maximum occupancy to 24, staff quickly get to know guests as names, not room numbers. Typically, visitors soon learn to recognise staff members, and through sharing similar objectives for their holiday, guests frequently become acquainted with each other, creating a comfortable and relaxed social experience.
We like to believe former and repeat guests that tell us Baan Bophut provides a comfort zone and they were happy to yield to the indulgence of the attentive, individualised service allowed by the hotel’s petite proportions. Having sampled a good few ourselves, we also believe our reviewers when they tell us that our beds are the most comfortable they’ve slept in.
We’re located just 150m to the east of the pier which marks the formal centre of the Fisherman’s Village, but far enough from the noise and excitement the tourist season can generate a little bit further up the street to ensure that guests are not normally disturbed. To assist us in the promise of comfort we make to all guests, and as much as we welcome families, we’re unable accommodate small children and must discourage those with boisterous or noisy teens and all children under 12 years old .
We’ve already described the main facilities we offer on the Welcome page. But having this space allows us to extend the list and expand the detail of what you can expect to be available during your visit:
Laundry: handed-in before 12h00, it’s collected by Bubbles, our laundry contractor, and usually returned around lunchtime the following day
All rooms with air conditioning, minibar, tea & coffee making facilities, cable TV, DVD & CD players, & safe deposit boxes: air conditioning units can also act as fansif ambient temperature ispreferred to chilled. They can also breakdown attempting to cool down the beach if used with the verandah doors open. We provide free bottled water for beverages, with milk and some snacks in the fridge; a DVD library, beach towels and a small selection of toiletries. Minibar beer prices are pub prices, not typically marked up hotel prices! We don’t encourage it, but by all means bring-in alcohol for your own use. Ask us for extra glasses and ice, but please confine your drinking to your room and verandah
Hot water bathrooms: The basin taps in some rooms are quirky and can be easily pulled off. They work fine, but need a bit of care. Only the Suite has a proper bathtub, with over shower. Showers in all other rooms don’t have curtains, being of a wet room design. It has been indicated to us that if one is sat on the toilet it’s possible to be splashed if their partner is showering at the same time. We apologise to simul-tasking guests in advance, but point out that it’s much easier for guests to adjust the timing of their various ablutions than it is for us to contrive some anti-splash solution
Housekeeping, linen & pillows: rooms are cleaned daily and toiletries replaced as necessary. Use of the supplied ‘Do not disturb’ sign postpones cleaning until you’re ready, but it’s not necessary to use the sign overnight to prevent being disturbed while you’re still in the room in the morning. Our Ninja housekeeping girls know when you’re not in the room and it’s convenient to attack! Bed linen is changed every three days unless greater frequency is requested. A choice of duck & goose down or hypo-allergenic fibre-filled pillows is offered. Alternate choice pillows are kept in the wardrobe
Hairdryers, irons & ironing boards & plug adapters:are available from reception upon request
Beach front restaurant & cocktail bar: the kitchen is open and staffed from 07h30 until 21h00. An all-day menu includes cooked breakfasts, sandwiches, hot & cold snacks, salads, western favourites and an extensive Thai menu
Travel & tour services: book through Mia or with Lucy at Reception. It can be arranged for ferry operators and several tour operators to collect guests from the hotel
Ticket booking and confirmations: airline tickets can be booked and re-confirmed; ferry tickets, departure times and advice
Car, Bike & Kayak rentals: the hotel doesn’t own cars or bikes, but they can be booked through Reception and delivered to the hotel. Kayaks are owned by the hotel and available at TBT 200/hr from barman Tik, or through Reception
Taxi services: an in-house driver and pickup is often available at low cost, but if he’s working elsewhere, we’ll arrange a taxi
Overseas call services: it’s there if you need it. Charged at cost. Local calls made on your behalf to book trips or make appointments are free
Books, DVD & games library: finished a book? Leave it in the library cupboard next to Reception and take another. Not got a book to read? Take one on us. Raining hard? Play chess, backgammon or watch a DVD in your room. We have a guitar knocking about too, for loan to genuine musicians
Free broadband WiFi in rooms, bar & the beach: please bring your own laptop or use an Internet cafe in the village. Unless it’s an emergency we don’t allow guest use of the hotel’s computer. Our Receptionist is still haunted by the memory of discovering a guest’s uploaded naked self-pics
Discounts for long stays: we’re always willing to listen…
Reservations & Payment: Bookings must be confirmed in writing, by either e-mail or fax. Bookings are secured by the deposit calculated by Lucy or Reception staff, usually 30 per cent of the room rate agreed x the number of days booked. We prefer the security deposit is paid through the PayPal system, but we’re happy enough to take your credit card details over the phone or accept cash if you’re already on the island. Cancellation policy varies with the season, but if we can resell the room without loss we’ll return any unused portion of your deposit
Complimentary continental breakfast: includes cereal, croissant or toast with butter and jam, a seasonal fruit selection, fresh fruit juice, tea or our excellent, freshly ground coffee. Breakfast is complimentary not inclusive – the room rate doesn’t become cheaper if you don’t eat breakfast! Believe me, it’s been tried on as a bargaining gambit!
Swimming pool, lawn area & private beach: the pool is small (9m x 3m, but deep) with an infinity edge; the lawn contains 8 or 9 orchid wrapped coconut palms, two small ones in the corner support a hammock. We have sufficient double and single wooden sun loungers, together with Thai Axe cushions to provide (almost) for a full hotel. Speedos are banned discouraged. Persistent wearers of ‘budgie smugglers’ will be ridiculed by the management. Despite the impression held by many western visitors, Thailand is a deeply conservative society and female, topless sunbathing is against the law. Here are some other tips for visitors and ‘Thailand do’s & don’ts’ which may be useful
‘Spirit House’ beach bar: locally brewed beers – Singha, Tiger, Heineken, San Miguel Lite and a selection of imported wines & spirits are available throughout the day. The beach bar is open from 15h00 and special requests for imported beers, Breezers and ciders or that special cocktail ingredient, can usually be entertained at short notice
Medicinal Massage:Khun Sa’adis a star and something of a minor miracle worker when it comes to aiding recovery from strokes or other more temporary paralysis such as from trapped nerves etc. Sa-ad is a friend to the family and our hotel and although much in demand, he can usually be persuaded to treat Baan Bophut guests as a priority. Costs – paid directly to Sa-ad – around ฿600, US $16, £10, 12€/hour
Pharmacy/doctor/dentist/hospital visit: stomach upsets – not unusual with a change of climate, water and food – can usually be relieved with a course of charcoal tablets and anti-nausia pills from the pharmacy. Just let us know if you’re not feeling well and we’ll try to sort you out. For more serious ailments we’ll get a doctor to you or arrange your visit to one of the four international hospitals on the island. Even if you haven’t got toothache a visit to the dentist in Samui is a worthwhile investment in your teeth
Hairdressing & other girl stuff: With a bit of notice, Lucy can usually find a hairdresser that will attend the hotel to cut and style both ladies’ and mens’ hair. Similarly, Lucy is wary of using local girls for her more intimate body care needs. Australian friend Gabrielle, operates a very professional mobile bodywaxing service. Call Gaby to make an appointment if you want a Brazilian in your room!
Smoking: ashtrays are provided in all guest rooms, with the request that they are used by smokers only on verandahs and penthouse balconies. In the interests of safety – no smoking in bed! The restaurant is open on three sides, has no air conditioning and it’s therefore OK to smoke if other guests don’t object.
Special occasion during your stay?let us know if you want flowers, a cake, bubbly or that romantic seafood dinner on the beach to make your day extra special
